CASE
During my internship at magazine design studio AKIMOTO in Amersfoort, I gained valuable insights into the world of magazine creation. This experience deepened my interest in independent magazines, which became the focus of my internship report.
The design is inspired by the studio’s Japanese name and my love for minimalism and brutalist aesthetics. I titled the report HET MAG, a Dutch phrase meaning “it’s
allowed.”
These were the words my supervisor a AKIMOTO often used to encourage me to break traditional design rules—experimenting with overlaps, margins, and white space to create something unique yet visually appealing. This lesson has stayed with me and continues to influence my work.
Beyond its meaning, MAG also serves as an abbreviation for magazine, making the title a playful nod to both creative freedom and editorial design.
